Make me LOL

You wouldn't think anything of this Twitter feed from R29 during the Grammy's, but I did. It caught my eye that without glancing at the logo, it looked like one of my friends was composing these tweets. I sat back on the couch and thought, huh. I really like the fact that their feed has news and embedded hyperlinks, but they're bringing casual, humorous content into their social media. Other fabulous social media updaters such as Marie Claire and Giorgio Armani know how to get clicks, but do they know how to keep a loyal following? Bringing sarcasm, wit and humor into a company's social media could be the future. In my opinion, that's what catches someone's eye and keeps their interest. I always use my group of girl friends as a reference base. They like to be entertained by things that truly make them laugh. Kudos, R29. I think this is the way to go.

Less is More?

I think it's interesting that we don't remember many things because we don't think we have to try. Why is it that my father remembers what specific songs were played at his high school prom but I can barely remember the plot of a movie I saw six months ago? I think it's because of pictures. The Internet. Sharing. Social media. So many of us live through a camera lens because we want to capture the memory, but it's never quite the same. We think we'll remember, but we're just recording.

How is it that my parents and grandparents know the exact date that the first Led Zeppelin album came out? There is such an influx of music, pictures and content readily available that we don't need to revere that album, remember those lyrics or obsess over a work of art. In my opinion, the arts 50 years ago meant so much more. People had no Candy Crush and Facebook mobile to occupy their time. Just something to think about...
